Abstract

My team at MMSL, ITRI had completed a two-year public road self-driving car operation at NanLiao, HsinChu from 2019 to 2020, a three-month public road operation of two self-driving buses in the Taichung Central Park area in 2020 and has been running an opera-tion of several self-driving logistics vehicles in the HsinChu down-town area since 2021. In this talk, the core software modules for en-abling these public road operations in Taiwan will be described and the experiences and challenges will be shared and discussed. In ad-dition, the recent works on self-driving technology from my NYCU team will be introduced.

Bio.

Chieh-Chih (Bob) Wang received his B.S. and M.S. from National Taiwan University, and received his Ph.D. in Robotics from the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. Bob was an Australian Research Council (ARC) Research Fellow of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Autonomous Systems and the Australian Centre for Field Robotics at the University of Sydney from 2004 to 2005. He was with the De-partment of Computer Science and Information Engineering at National Taiwan Uni-versity from 2005 to 2015. Dr. Wang worked at the Special Projects Group of Apple Inc. from 2015 to 2016. He is currently a professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University and the Chief Digital Officer at Mechanical and Mechatronics Systems Research Laboratories (MMSL), Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI).
