Abstract
Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) systems have garnered significant attention due to advancements in sensing technologies, clinical applications, and commercially available products. This talk will commence with a brief overview of BCI and its cutting-edge applications. Subsequently, I will discuss ongoing projects from my research team, which include: (1) the development of watermill-like EEG electrodes for real-world neurophysiological monitoring, (2) RehabVerse, a home-based rehabilitation BCI system within a mixed-reality environment, and (3) BrainPrint, a BCI-enabled eyewear for personal identification. Additionally, I will present select works when I was at the Facebook Reality Lab and Microsoft Research
Bio.
Dr. Yu-Te Wang earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of California, San Diego, in 2015. Following his graduation, he joined nGoggle as a Researcher, where he advanced his research on steady-state visual evoked potential-based Brain-Computer Interface systems. His primary responsibility involved designing and implementing a portable glaucoma detection system for continuous home monitoring. In 2017, he transitioned to Meta (formerly Facebook) as a Research Analyst, focusing on a brain-typing project that utilized covert visual stimuli and hand gestures to facilitate user interaction with augmented and virtual reality devices. In 2019, he became a member of Alto Neuroscience, where he developed automatic signal processing pipelines and modeled treatment outcomes for patients with depression-related disorders. In 2021, Dr. Wang joined Microsoft Research in Redmond, WA, where he worked on real-world applications of brain-computer interfaces in augmented, virtual, and mixed-reality environments. In 2023, he joined the Research Center for Information Technology Innovation, Academia Sinica, Taiwan.
