Abstract
The development of modern mobile OLED devices has been rapidly advancing. In scenarios where mobile device battery life is constrained, research of power-saving techniques for displays on mobile devices has seen significant growth in recent decades. Furthermore, studies have highlighted that users devote a substantial portion of their total usage time on mobile devices to swipe gestures. Addressing the challenge of high power consumption during scrolling phenomena has been the focus of various research in the past. However, there has been limited exploration of OLED-specific power characteristics in this context.
In this presentation, Dr. Lin will commence by providing insights into the development journey of power-saving technologies for mobile devices. Subsequently, Dr. Lin will introduce power-saving strategies tailored to swipe actions on mobile OLED devices, using a web browser as an illustrative example. This innovative approach exploits the unique power characteristics of OLED displays and employs an attention model that captures user behavior while browsing web pages. It dynamically transforms the colors of less-attended areas during scrolling phenomena to more power-efficient ones, achieving OLED power savings without compromising the user experience. After applying this power-saving technology to mobile devices and conducting comprehensive testing, the results unequivocally demonstrate its effectiveness in both reducing OLED power consumption and maintaining processing speed.
Bio.
Chun-Han Lin received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in the Department of Computer Information Science from National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), and the Ph.D. degree in the Department of Computer Science from National Tsing Hua University (NTHU). Dr. Lin is currently an associate professor of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering (CSIE) in National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), where he leads the System and Software Optimization Laboratory (SSO Lab). Previously, he was a postdoctoral fellow of the Research Center for Information Technology Innovation in Academia Sinica. His research interests include embedded systems and sensor networks. He is a member of the IEEE.
Dr. Lin has published more than 20 research papers, which were mainly published in prestige journals (e.g., IEEE TSMCA, IEEE TC, IEEE TCSVT, IEEE TCAD, ACM TECS, and ACM TODAES) and premier conferences (e.g., ACM/IEEE DAC, ACM/IEEE ISLPED, and ACM/IEEE CODES+ISSS). His work received best paper awards from a premier conference (i.e., ACM/IEEE CODES+ISSS 2020). Additionally, Dr. Lin was a recipient of the Rewards for Special Talents from National Taiwan Normal University in 2019.
All faculty and students are welcome to join.
