Abstract
The development of artificial intelligence (AI) hardware has become a key driver in advancing AI technologies across a broad range of application domains. Recent innovations in specialized processors and neural network accelerators have significantly improved computational performance, enabling real-time data processing and the efficient execution of increasingly complex algorithms. Looking ahead, the tight integration of advanced hardware platforms with AI algorithms will be critical to unlocking new opportunities, accelerating technological progress, and shaping the future of artificial intelligence. Despite these advances, several important challenges remain, including cost, scalability, and sustainability. In this talk, I will discuss these design challenges and present an approach for developing scalable and reconfigurable AI hardware. The presentation will conclude with a demonstration that highlight recent advances and practical applications of AI hardware technologies.
Bio.
Kun-Chih (Jimmy) Chen is currently a Professor at the Institute of Electronics at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU). Since February 2026, he serves as the Director of the Globalization and Development Office in the College of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NYCU. In 2023, He was elected as the Electric Junior Chair Professor at NYCU. His research interests include Multiprocessor SoC (MPSoC) design, Neural network learning algorithm design, Reliable system design, VLSI/CAD design, and Smart manufacturing. Prof. Chen has received several prestigious national and international awards, including the Ta-You Wu Memorial Award of NSTC (i.e., Early Career Award in Taiwan), Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering (CIEE) Outstanding Youth Electrical Engineer Award, Taiwan IC Design Society Outstanding Young Scholar Award, IEEE Tainan Section Best Young Professional Member Award, etc. Under his leadership, his research team became the first in Taiwan to win the IEEE ISCAS Best Student Paper Award and IEEE TVLSI Best Paper Award. He is an IEEE senior member.
