Abstract
We live in the era of information explosion. In this era, information finds and reaches us as easily as we find and reach it. We access and are notified of information from a variety of media and devices. And yet, relentless notifications and pushed content come as they want, at least most of the time, regardless of the attention resources we have at the moment. Ironically, seemingly addicted to these notifications and contents, we are accustomed to checking them constantly, despite the fact that this may be mis-interpreted as welcoming disruption and thus inadvertently brings about more. This dilemma caused by the always-on-and-always-connected nature of computer-mediated communication (CMC) technology has drawn the attention of researchers in human computer interaction (HCI). In this talk, I introduce trending topics regarding attention-centered CMC in the field HCI, including my own research efforts. I hope the introduction will appeal to your interest in joining this exciting area.
Bio.
Yung-Ju (Stanley) Chang is an associate professor in the Dept. of Computer Science at the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. He received his M.S. (2009) and Ph.D. (2016) degree in Science of Information in the School of Information at the University of Michigan. In 2016, he joined the National Chiao Tung University and led the Mobile and Ubiquitous Interaction Lab (MUI Lab). Stanley's main research interests lie in the intersection between Ubiquitous Computing (Ubicomp) and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), with a primary focus on supporting mobile communication and attention, mobile crowdsourcing, and human-AI interaction.
