Abstract:

Context-Aware systems and applications are increasingly important in an emerging world of everywhere, always on, always connected, and off-desktop devices. System designers and developers must be prepared for and respond to this approaching and coming wave. But, what is considered a good context-aware technology? What should we do to make it better? In this talk, I will present my perspectives on how do design and develop context-aware technology based on the lessons learned from my research on supporting the development of context-aware systems. In particular, I will highlight three essential steps for achieving a good context-aware technology with a primary focus on the research and application design aspects. Then, I will attempt to push the direction forward to designing a "better" Context-Aware Technology and argue for future research directions that can potentially achieving the goal.

Bio

Yung-Ju (Stanley) Chang is a Ph.D. Candidate working with Prof. Mark W. Newman in the School of Information (UMSI) at the University of Michigan. He is a member of Michigan Interactive & Social Computing (MISC) group and Interaction Ecologies Group. His research primarily focuses on Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Ubiquitous Computing(Ubicomp), Mobile Crowdsourcing, and Information Behavior. His recent research  includes design toolkits to support the development of context-aware systems; understanding mobile users' information and communication behavior; and developing techniques and systems for enabling mobile data collection for mobile and situated crowdsensing and computational social science.

Prior to his Ph.D. study, he complected his BS degree in Computer Science in the National Chiao Tung University and MS degree in Information Science with double specializations in HCI and Incentive Cenerted Design (ICD) at the University of Michigan.

備註:Mr. Chang will apply to our faculty position for Fall 2016. Interested faculty and students are welcome to attend the talk.
